The 5 Best Apple iPad Games

Featuring everything from real-time strategy titles like Modern Conflict HD to card game classics like Uno HD, we’ve compiled a comprehensive updated list of over 5 of the greatest video games available for the Apple iPad.
The original Fieldrunners was one of the first iPhone games to receive critical acclaim from press other than the traditional gaming media, and it sparked a wave of tower defense games on the App Store. An iPad edition was an inevitability, and it plays and looks about like you’d expect it — like Fieldrunners for iPhone but with an easier-to-handle interface and an aesthetically pleasing visual update.
Developers Subatomic Studios have given a considerable amount of post-release support to their game with new maps, so TD fans won’t be starved for content if they invest in this App Store hit.

With origins as an Amiga game in the early ’90s, Babylonian Twins has a long and storied history. The game allows players to switch between two unique characters, both of whom have unique abilities which will be used to navigate around enormous levels. We found the game to be extremely challenging–despite it’s kid-friendly art–and its head-scratching puzzles are incredibly satisfying to solve. With that being said, the best target audience for this game is the older crowd that can appreciate a truly challenging platformer. Worthy of special mention is the original Iraqi-influenced musical score, which is both soothing and appropriate for the setting of the game.
Flight Control is one of those games that has become synonymous with iPhone gaming, so it was no surprise to see an HD iPad version ready to go for launch day. The game requires players to think quickly to draw out flight paths for numerous planes to help guide them to a safe landing. Directing the planes into one another has disastrous results, so it’s important to manage time and space effectively to get a high score. The iPad version features a 3D glasses mode, numerous multiplayer options including split-screen, and even a co-op mode. You won’t think it form having played the iPhone version, but Flight Control makes a pretty solid multiplayer tabletop game when playable on the right hardware.
Redubbed as Circle of Blood for its stateside release, the first Broken Sword was heralded by critics as a beautiful piece of interactive work that shouldn’t be missed by any fan of point-and-click adventure games. This new Director’s Cut version of the game adds in several new segments to the game’s core story which allow players to slip into the shoes of Nicole (one of the game’s two main characters) for the first time. In addition to the new segments, new art and animation has been provided by Dave Gibbons, who many will recognize from his work on the Watchmen comic series. Several user-friendly features like a hint system have been added into the iPad release of this game, so if you’re interested in the genre, don’t be afraid to pick this one up.
Civilization Revolution was 2K’s attempt to bring a more “newbie friendly” version of the classic Civ franchise to consoles, and it was a by and large a success. A reworked interface that takes advantage of the iPad’s unique featuers ensures that this is a port of surprisingly high quality. Civilization Revolution improves upon the basic iPhone version by including a Scenario Creator, which allows players to make their own challenges and adds what is essentially unlimited replay value. If there was ever a game for those unfamiliar with Sid Meier’s excellent strategy series to jump into, this is it.
